We supply the hay. We have 1 box stall and 12 tie stalls (sheltered) available for your use. They are separate from our pens and water tanks. Butt ropes are provided in each tie stall, and they are mandatory. Please bring your own halter and shank so that you may tie your horse. Your horse should have experience being tied in a tie stall as well as eating from a manger (head down) while tied, before booking a stay with us. Your horse needs to be tied long enough so that they can eat, but not too long that they can get a foot over. If a horse does pull back tying them correctly will ensure that they will connect with the butt bar before they reach the end of the rope, making it more likely that they will step forward for the release without incident. Please note that we do not permit feeding on the ground outside of their stalls. Grazing is not permitted on Outpost property. Each person is responsible for watering their horse. One separate water tank is available for tie stall boarders (cleaned and disinfected prior to use) or if you prefer you can water your horse in the river, just 20 feet from the tie stalls. You are responsible for removing manure daily with the wheelbarrows and rakes provided. We suggest picking up the manure before backing your horse out of the stall, to minimize the manure being pounded into the ground.
All rides are on your own without a guide. Don’t worry … we’ll point you in the right direction! If you are interested in full guide services please visit Outpost Escape.
For those who get lost easily, bring your GPS navigator and we’ll give you the coordinates of some of our favourite spots! Maps of trails from the Bighorn to The Outpost can be downloaded from http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ab/banff/activ/cheval-horse/YaHaTinda/b.aspx .
